The Thread that started some of these responses:
The Boys is commentary on the "real" superman? That might actually be the heart of why the Heroic Ideal is covered in muck. That's how most current fans see the Big Blue.
The reactions to that thread are petty telling. In light of what some have in their username too. Even more outlets that are supposed to promote actual sci fi are regulated to staring at the dirt. Space Exploration isnt mundane. The old Apollo movie with Hanks in it got it. Even Interstellar got this aspect correctly. Most mundane manifesto stuff doesn't concentrate on adventure intermixed with other things. They just go full ham staring at the dirt.
The people who love nihilism say there isnt enough of what they want. The protags with mental issues or more watchmen ripoffs ect. But that's all there is with most major outlets. Most trends feed this shitty wolf. Even Sanderson did.
Maybe I am just more optimistic but if people suddenly got superpowers, a majority of them would be heroes. Some might be Booster Gold level, "Look at me, I'm commanding all of social media" but in the end they would do the right thing. We just got to get more creatives jumping back on the optimism wagon. (It's why I had Eliza make that comment about HeroNet, because at one point the population didnt believe that people would genuinely go heroic mode with powers. That is legitimately my jab at that construct in modern comics ect)
In fact, Issue 3 is in the final stages. I probably didnt catch all the typoeses! but an effort was made.
I had recorded this a few days ago. Enjoy!
RJ has very good breakdowns on why Aspirational Ideals are getting dragged:
