Vs people who want Superman to be an X-man instead. I've come to the conclusion that most will either heavily prefer the aspirational, like I do, vs those who want the "gritty relatable" like this article here.
This guy understands Superman just as well as I understand Batman, which is not at all.
I guarantee if I wrote Batman I'd fuck that character up just as bad as Snyder did with Superman. Or Om King.
Because I am not interested in Batman. I tried. He was fine enough with the JLA Animated series. And I watched the Batman Animated series. Even some of the Batman Beyond for the futuristic aspect but I never connected with the character like I did Superman.
Sometimes people even shit on gold and silver age Superman to prop up the "Man of Steel" 80s run as more "relatable". Really starting to hate that word. Or at the very least, detest it.
The Crisis on Infinite Earths thing was a nail in some ways. If you have a multiverse, use it.
It just comes down to the fact that no matter what argument you pose, some prefer Apples. Some prefer Oranges and some can dabble in both. Some sample everything. Genre and expectations are different for everyone.
I still go to Ollies to see if they have any old Superman stuff on the shelves that isn't Nu52 shit or other runs I have a heavy dislike for. Guess this reader will always prefer the Boy Scouts or Girl Scouts over other archetypes. Because in this day and age they are much more rare.
Now back to more Writing for Uplift Protocol because my blood is up and I want to keep going.
